Spiderwick Chronicles
Arthur Spiderwick spent his whole life recording all
the details of magical creatures living at the bottom
of his garden and put them all into a book which
became the number one target of the evil troll who
wanted to become master of the realm (naturally).
Then one day, Arthur and his book disappeared...
80 years later and his descendents return to his
house to live. When one of the kids stumble upon
the book, he risks unleashing terrible magic on the
world. The story is based on a best-selling childrens'
book series, and unlike most kiddie fare, there is a
real sense of danger in the proceedings and very
high quality special effects. It also stars Freddie
Highmore from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,
who is truly one of the great child actors around,
indeed he gets to play both of twin brothers here.
Superior fantasy fare, and not just for the kids. In
fact I would argue this is better than Narnia.
